Notes for Thomas Warburton
Thomas was baptised the son of Robert of Elton. His identification him as the Thomas who married Betty Warburton is based on his age, and place of birth in the 1851 census, and his age at death.

He was a weaver when son Robert was born, but a painter on both Robert’s marriages, Alice’s marriage, and on Nelly’s second marriage as Ellen Seddon.

The identification of Robert’s siblings is based on the set of baptisms of children of Thomas and Betty following their marriage in 1808, and the fact Thomas is a painter on Nelly’s second marriage. Walter and betty are witnesses to this marriage.

There are no further Thomas and Betty marriages during the period, and there is a gap in baptisms of children of Thomas and Betty after Alice in 1823. Thomas was a weaver on all but the first baptism (no occupation given), and his abode is Bury on all but Robert’s baptism, when his abode i is transcribed as Kingshurst. However the actual record appears to say Kings Street, which is in Bury. It seems unlikely Robert would be an only child born 12 years after his parents married.

There was a a Thomas and Betty marriage in Bury in 1803, but no children until Nelly was born nearly four months after Robert’s parents married. It is therefore assumed the first Thoams and Betty were childless.

Thomas’s death was registered in 4q 1859 Bury 8c 267, aged 71 (Pilkington sub-district on LancashireBMD).
