A Biography of international football & cricket trainer Fred Warburton, by his Grandson Ken Warburton appeared in Issue 2 of The Button Files. The following photos include some I had to leave out of the newsletter as they made the file to large to email.
Fred as a cricket Groundsman
The 1881 Census only lists 6 family members living at 5 Church Street Bolton. James senior at this time was working as a stonemason in Marlborough, Wiltshire and was lodging with George James and family.
Betsy and her family were living next door to her Father and Mother (John & Margaret Moore) and her brother Thomas.
The original photo was donated to the Plymouth Argyle club in February 2001 by Joe Warburton because they had lost all their records in a disastrous fire.
Taken on 12th May 1929. Fred is 2nd left in the flat cap
Son Jim is in the middle of the front row, son Joe is extreme left front row, and son Fred is the 2nd left on the back row.
It is situated in Torrisholme Cemetery on Westgate in Morecambe. Since this photo was taken, Fred’s Daughter Mary has been commemorated by an additional inscription on the stone.
