I was recently contacted by Yvonne Dod whose grandmother Ada Mary Warburton was one of 12 children of Edward and Jane nee Allen. I had Edward, Jane and 11 of their children in my tree but hadn’t added details. Also I had missed Ada Mary because she wasn’t home in the 1901 census (the most recent available back then). There is a lot more information online compared with when the family was initially added in 2008, including the 1911 and 1921 censuses, and the 1939 Register.
I have now expanded Edward and Jane and their descendants, and updated the tree on line. The branch seems to have unusual longevity. Only one of Edward and Jane’s children died in infancy, Edward lived to 87, while his 4 adult sons also exceeded 80, with Samuel reaching 97. Ada Mary was 88 when she died.
However despite the longevity there don’t seem to be any surviving male line Warburtons. The four sons who reached adulthood produced 5 granddaughters and 2 grandsons, but it seems the two grandsons only had daughters.
I was correct in giving Edward and Jane only 11 children, although they claimed 12 (11 still living) in the 1911 census. It turns out the youngest, Ethel who was born in 1899, was baptised as the daughter of Jane, their 4th daughter, then 18 years old. Within 2 years Jane had married, going on to have 3 children of her own, while Ethel stayed with her grandparents.
